Get lost, Pappy! I want to have fun, and Jesus would be a stick-in-the-mud

Some people think they'd have to give up a lot of pleasure in order to become a follower of Christ.

Actually, that's not so in context.

Think of it this way:

People are used to media and the internet providing pleasure right now. Maybe it's a 30-60-second TV commercial, or a 30-60-minute TV program. The lonely person finds true love or someone dies, leaving a fortune, or someone wins Power Ball.

Real life doesn't usually unfold quickly like that.

Practice this: delayed gratification. Heaven, in one sense, is delayed. But, I have good news: Many of Heaven's blessings can start right now.

I've devoted my life fully to Christ, and I live a consistently joyful life!

"But, Pappy, you're a cripple!"

Yes, and my so-called affliction would be so much worse if Jesus weren't walking beside me all the way, comforting me, giving me ideas on how to reduce pain, and giving me much to enjoy and people to have fun and laugh with while I'm getting better and better.

One man I know thought about what he'd have to give up in order to be a follower of Jesus, but he discovered so much more that he gained.

Yes, Jesus asks us to give up--or delay--certain things, in exchange for something better now or later (delayed gratification).

God’s Word says there are only three reasons people reject God’s gift of redemption through the Gospel: ignorance, pride and/or a moral problem.

It's a no-brainer. Choose the Lord Jesus' way of consistent and eternal joy, or reject Him and discover far more misery than you had anticipated.
